From the Desk of our Pastor, Fr. Joe Gatto
From the Desk of our Pastor, Fr. Joe Gatto As we journey through this Lenten Season, many of us may choose to “give things up.” My hope is that by giving things up, we make room to be filled with the Word and truth of Christ in our lives, and take time to consider whether we are living Christ-like lives and how we can use this time to continue to build good Christian habits, especially in our relationship with our Lord.

I encourage you to join us for the various Lenten events that we are offering including weekly Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 1:20 pm and 7 pm, our upcoming Lenten Retreat and Parish Penance Service. Please also take time to become even more Christ-like in reaching out to others and reaching within your own heart to know the Lord more fully.

Join us for our Parish Lenten Retreat!
Join us for our Parish Lenten Retreat! March 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm in the Church

Listen as Jesus beckons us to “come away” awhile and spend time with Him this Lent.

Fr. Tony Rigoli, OMI, a Buffalo native, presently serving in New Orleans, is a dynamic presenter who will lead us through our three-night spiritual retreat. His presentations will be followed by a reflective closing prayer service each evening. We will have a parish fellowship reception on the last evening of the Retreat.

Fr. Tony’s presentations will help us:

- Explore ways to deepen our personal prayer lives and learn how prayer can calm and center us

- Discover God’s healing grace in our lives as we deal with life’s hurts and pain

- Find courage through prayer to face the fears that hold us back from being all that God hopes for us

All are welcome!
For more information, contact Eileen Warner in our Parish Office.

LENTEN SEASON 2010
On Ash Wednesday we receive a cross of ashes on our foreheads, a sign of our willingness to turn from our old way of life and embrace the cross of Christ more fully in our lives. Lent is a time of conversion. But too often we think of conversion only as a turning away from sin. It’s not enough merely to turn away from those things that represent death and destruction in our lives. Conversion is also a turning toward new and unexpected challenges to grow. We need not wallow in regret for past sins. Instead we can offer our repentance, celebrate God’s forgiveness, and look to the future with hope.

May your Lenten Season be blessed and spiritually enriching. For the Holy Week schedule and ways to make your Lenten Season more meaningful and spiritual, click on Lenten Opportunities and Holy Week Schedule.

Lenten Notes from the Art and Environment Committee...
Lenten Notes from the Art and Environment Committee...

As our Lenten journey continues may the décor and installation art amidst the altar communicate the passion of Christ in your life.
Black fabric accentuating the church is symbolic of God being with us, even in the darkness.
Purple, a color used for royalty, represents the kingship and passion of Christ.
Shimmery silver presents an opportunity to contemplate the Holy Spirit’s omnipresence in our lives, being with us always at every moment.
Rocks and dry vines transport us to Jesus praying in the wilderness and inspire our journey of prayer this Lent.
The Baptismal font, dry at this time, illustrates the seemingly absence of life giving waters.
Thorns running down the altar are reminiscent of the pain and mockery Christ endured as an unaccepted king. The thorns are also a reminder of the thorns in our lives, the ones we cause and the thorns we endure.
May your experience draw you into the life, death and resurrection of Christ.
