Why do we sing Protestant hymns?

The Roman Catholic Church is engaged in an ecumenical dialogue. The Church talks of the need for unity among Christians. "What hope can Christianity hold out to the world when it remains divided regarding the meaning of Christ and his cross, and thus regarding the final meaning of existence?" Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. Catholic hymnals today are an expression of this ecumenical dialogue.

Why do we sing stodgy old hymns?

The Roman Catholic Church has inherited a rich musical tradition for which liturgical musicians have the privilege to use and sing anew. The Church celebrates in the variety of musical styles we have inherited and is available today.
